Walking Sat Nam Meditation

Walking meditation

We all have moments in life where we feel overwhelmed and busy. Thoughts and worries are arising. If you are worried or have a busy mind, you might like to try this walking meditation. It is simple yet effective.

First of all, take a moment to focus all your attention towards yourself, your body and your breath. Observe how your body is feeling; are there any tensions, is it warm or cold, does it feel relaxed or contracted. You do not have to change a thing, just observe what is here.

Take a deep breath in and breathing out. Another deep breath in and letting it out. A third time breathing in and breathing out.

Then start by putting one foot forward and mentally or verbally say the word ‘Sat’. Put your other foot forward and say ‘Nam’. Repeat this process while walking and focus on being here in this moment: step by step, breath by breath and word by word.

There are two variations of using the breath while walking. One: during saying “Sat” and putting a foot forwards, you inhale. During saying “Nam” and putting the other foot forwards, you exhale. Make sure your breathing rythm is slow, profound and easy. Two: your breath goes naturally of its own accord not linked to the movements of your feet.

You can commit to this meditation for about 20 minuts. Then stand still, take a moment to feel what you are feeling in your body. Be still and observe. Take a deep beath in, stretch your arms above your head and hold your breath for about 5-10 seconds. And breathe out moving your arms back down and relax.

Enjoy!

Sat Nam – What does it mean?

Mantras are to deepen your yoga practise. Like the use of “Sat Nam”. “Sat” means truth and “nam” means identity: my true identity is truth, I am Truth.
